Frequently Asked Questions
Does it hurt?
Pain is relative. Pain tolerance will vary from person to person, so it is hard to give an exact answer. But to be frank, it does not feel good. Some placements will hurt more than others. Many of my clients have compared the feeling to cat scratches on a sunburn and also say that it is more annoying then unbearable. Keep in mind that people keep coming back for more, so it cannot be that bad.
How much is it going to cost?
The minimum for any tattoo is $100. The total cost of the tattoo is going to depend on the tattoo design and size. The more intricate the design or the larger the piece, the more it will cost. For me to be able to give an expected cost, we will need to first discuss the tattoo further to see what we are working with.
Do you have tattoo designs for me to choose from?
While I may post some flash pieces from time to time for clients to choose from, I do not have a large selection of these designs. Each tattoo will be custom drawn to the specifications of the client, so please come ready with your ideas.
When is the best time to get a tattoo?
Relatively speaking, the fall/winter would be a good time for a person to get tattooed. If you are planning to hit the beach or hang by the pool during the spring/summer, you are better off waiting to get tattooed. After getting tattooed, you will not be able to go to the lake, beach, swimming, tanning, etc. for at least 2- 4 weeks. All of these activities can have negative effects on your new tattoo by hindering the healing process and/or allowing the tattoo to be exposed to bacteria, which could cause an infection.
Do you accept walk ins?
I will accept walk ins, but I cannot guarantee that I will be available if you do walk in. Clients are better off making an appointment to ensure that they are able to get in to get tattooed.
Do I have to leave a deposit for a tattoo?
Yes, a minimum deposit of $50 is required at the time you schedule your appointment. The deposit will come off the price of the tattoo. Deposits are non-refundable. If you need to reschedule your appointment, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance. If you do not reach out at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time, you will lose your deposit and be required to make another deposit for the new appointment. For more information on the full deposit policy, please email jsheptattoo@gmail.com
How old do I have to be to get tattooed?
In the state of North Carolina, you must be 18 years of age to get tattooed. Clients are not able to get tattooed at 16-17 years of age with a parent signature.
When should you not get tattooed?
If you:
are pregnant
are drunk
are high
are pre-surgery
are post-surgery
don’t know what you want
are sunburned
cannot afford it
